What We Believe

We at Calvary Chapel Central Oahu firmly believe that great doctrines of historic Christianity as they are revealed in the Bible.

1. We believe that whole Bible to be the inspired, inerrant Word of God. (authoritative for daily life without error in the original writings).

2. We believe there is one God, infinite, eternal, and immutable.  He is the Creator, Sustainer, and Governor of all things.  He exists in three persons ~ Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

3. We believe in: The Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God who became man, without ceasing to be God; His virgin birth; His sinless life; His substitutionary death for our sins; His bodily resurrection, ascension and second coming.

4. We believe that all men are sinners by nature and by practice, being alienated by God; man is unable to remedy his lost condition in and of himself.

5. We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  Those who have so trusted Christ are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and enabled to live a Godly life through submission to Him.

6. We believe that the Holy Spirit that the Holy Spirit is a person.  He is God and possesses all the divine attributes.  He indwells all believers, baptizes, imparts gifts (Charismata) as He wills and fills them in response to confession of sin and yieldedness.

7. We believe unconfessed sin and an unrepentant heart brings interruption in fellowship with God, bringing the loving discipline of the Heavenly Father.

8. We believe in the church of Jesus Christ as the Body of the True Believers Universal, called out by the Holy Spirit, espoused to the Bride of Christ.

9. We believe in the personal, imminent, and premillenial return of Jesus Christ to establish His Kingdom.

10. We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost ~ the saved unto eternal life and ~ the lost unto eternal judgement.

Our History

Calvary Chapel Central Oahu was given birth on July 15, 1990 at the Mililani YMCA.  This church is a multiplication from the North Shore Christian Fellowship, the result of six years of outreach Bible Studies in this section of Oahu. We met regularly at Mililani Uka Elementary School on Sunday mornings until May 1995.  Our next place of residence was a renovated pre-school located at Waikalani Drive in Waipio Valley.  We resided there for 3 years until May 1998.

Today our church office and Discipleship Center is located at Fairway Plaza, 95-119 Kamehameha Hwy, Suite D (across Kamehameha Hwy from the Mililani Freedom gas).  Our regular Sunday morning service is held at Mililani High School.

Our stated purpose as a church is to be a body of believers who are having hearts changed by God and turned toward others, to have our lifestyles changed from being disobedient to the wisdom of the just, and to have our destiny changed as few become a people prepared for Jesus' coming, based on Luke 1:16-17.  The key word is change and as we are changed by the power of God we desire that God would use us to change the community.  The only way to this kind of change in our lives is through Jesus Christ.

Our Faith

Calvary Chapel has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  Our supreme desiere is to know Christ and to be conformed into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We believe...
The only true basis of Christian fellowship is God's Agape' Love, which is greater than any differences we possess, and without which we have no right to claim ourselves to be Christians.

We believe...
Worship of God should be spiritual.  Therefore we remain flexible and yielded to the Holy Spirit to direct our worship.

We believe...
Worship of God should be inspirational.  Therefore we give great place to music in our worship.

We believe...
Worship of God should be intelligent.  Therefore our services are designed with great emphasis upon teaching the Word of God.

We believe...
Worship of God should be fruitful. Therefore we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been worshipping Him.

Our Purpose

Upward
1) The Exaltation of God: to have a high view of who God is.
Psalm 107:32, "Let them exalt Him also in the congregation of the people..."
Those who have been forgiven by the Lord - who have never undergone the cleansing touch of Jesus and the life-changing power of the Holy Spirit - really have no clue as to what is taking place when His people truly worship Him.  Worship is the response of a thankful heart, a heart that knows, by experience, the grace and goodness of God.

As we worship our heavenly Father, dwell on His attributes: he is Almighty; Compassionate; Faithful; Good; Holy; Patient; Pure; Righteous; Trustworthy; Wise; and so much more...

Inwards
2) Edification of the Body:
2 Corinthians 12:19, "We do all things, beloved, for your edification."
A] To have a high view of the Body of Christ; we really do need each other, and we really do need to love one another, for that is a mark of a disciple of Christ. Being here should demonstrate that being committed to this group of believers is a top priority in our lives.
B] Edification means to build up the church members. Even to become more equipped to carry on the work of the Lord has for each of us. A game at Aloha Stadium can have 50,000 spectators - who desperately need exercise - critiquing 22 players who desperately need rest.  But here we should be participants, not spectators.

Outwards
3) Evangelism of the lost: to have a correct view of the fallen condition of mankind and to have a compassionate heart for them and their salvation.
Mark 16:15, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." Everyone needs Jesus. Pray that the Holy Spirit moves upon the hearts of people as we gather, showing them their need for Christ and to genuinely turn from their sins to the abundant life in Jesus!

Our Worship

We believe that a primary purpose that God created us is that we should worship Him.  Therefore we provide opportunities to worship in the various services, Bible Studies and retreats.

We provide opportunity during the time of worship to offer up spontaneous prayer, as the Spirit of God prompt our hearts.

Our worship involves various forms of music and musical instruments. The Bible gives many examples where these instruments have been used to inspire and facilitate worship. (Exodus 15:20, 2 Samuel 6:5, 1 Chronicles 5:13-14, 1 Chronicles 15:16)

Worship prepares our hearts to receive from God, "...come before His presence with singing....Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise." (Psalm 100:2b, 4a)

That we worship from the heart not the lips.  Many of the songs that we sing are directly from the Bible.

Therefore the entire congregation is the choir and we encourage you to worship the Lord in your own way.  The raising of hands (Nehemiah 8:6), standing, or kneeling, is completely acceptable if you feel so led.

Discipleship

Our desire here at Calvary Chapel Central Oahu is to make available the training necessary for each individual believer to be "a Disciple" as Jesus commanded His church to make (Matthew 28:18-20). The three foundations in Faith, Discipleship and Leadership prepare a man or woman to go on and serve God well all their lives. We also provide Discipleship in Marriage and Family. A disciple's life is norma Christianity.
